Customers search before they call or buy. They pick whoever shows up.

People search Google or ask ChatGPT before they call a plumber, book an accountant or buy a gift. Then they pick from what they see. If your business isn't there, the job goes to someone else.

Why small businesses get missed
01

There's no page for what they searched

Most small business sites have one Services page for everything. Google needs a page for each service, product range and place you work before it can show you for it.

02

Competitors look like the safer pick

More reviews, a fuller Google profile and more mentions around the web. The map and AI answers go with the business they know more about.

03

The site loses the people who do find you

Slow on a phone, hard to read, no clear way to call, book or buy. Visitors go back and try the next one.

The fixA page for everything you sell, a Google profile and reputation that win the map and AI answers, and a site that makes it easy to call, book or buy.

Everything it takes to win customers from search, done for you

You don't get a report full of homework or a dashboard to figure out. You get the whole job of getting your business found, chosen and contacted, handled from start to finish.

The pages that bring in calls and customers

Most small business sites have a Home page, an About page and one Services page that lists everything. People search for something specific, so they need to land on a page about exactly that. These get planned, written and built for you.

The person behind Win The Search

Vukasin Ilić, SEO for small business consultant
Vukasin IlićNovi Sad, Serbia

I've run Win The Search since 2021, and I've done SEO since I was 14.

Before going out on my own, I spent five years at Munday Digital. I started there as a junior and left as head of SEO, after working on 20+ campaigns for Australian and global brands and managing the team of SEOs, writers and VAs behind them.

Since then I've worked on 120+ projects, including a 30-year-old marble and stone supplier and a music equipment retailer. Win The Search is a small business too, so I know every monthly bill has to pay for itself.

I plan the work and I do the work: the pages, the technical fixes, your Google profile, the AI search side and the tracking. Nothing gets handed off to a junior.

That's why reports lead with calls, bookings and sales from search, plus a list of every change made to your site. Traffic and rankings are there too, further down.

What SEO costs for a small business

Quotes run from $300 to $10,000 a month, and most retainers sit between $500 and $2,000. The price says little about the work behind it. Here's the price, and everything that's in it.

Ongoing work from$2,500a month, month-to-month

Most clients land between $3,000 and $6,000, depending on how much gets built each month.

Will $2,500 a month pay for itself?

Small business SEO: what owners ask

What is SEO for a small business?

+

It's the work that gets your business found when people search for what you sell, on Google, on the map and in AI tools like ChatGPT. That means the right pages, a complete Google Business Profile, a site that works well on phones, mentions on other sites, and tracking that shows which calls, bookings and sales came from search. If most of your customers are nearby, the map matters most, and that part is called local SEO.

What do you actually do each month?

+

The work changes as the site grows, but it's all done for you: research, new pages and rewrites, technical fixes, your Google profile, AI search work, links and mentions, tracking, and a monthly report with a call. Every change gets listed with the page it was made on. You don't get a to-do list. You get the work.

How much does SEO cost for a small business?

+

Quotes run from $300 to $10,000 a month, and most retainers sit between $500 and $2,000. Ongoing work with Win The Search starts at $2,500 a month, most clients land between $3,000 and $6,000, and it's month-to-month. Packages at $300 to $800 a month usually cover reports, a few Google posts and some listings.

Is SEO worth it for a small business?

+

It is when people search for what you sell and a few new customers a month cover the cost. Divide the monthly fee by what a new customer is worth to you after costs, and that's the number to beat. It isn't worth it yet if you need calls this week, or if hardly anyone searches for what you sell.

How long until SEO brings in calls and sales?

+

Fixes to your Google profile and to pages already close to page one can show up within weeks. New pages usually take 3 to 6 months to rank, and calls follow the rankings. Anyone promising page one in 30 days is guessing or cutting corners.

Can I do my own SEO, or use ChatGPT?

+

You can do some of it if you have the time. Filling in your Google Business Profile, asking every customer for a review and giving each service its own page are good places to start. ChatGPT can help you draft a page, but it can't see how your site is doing in Google or fix it, and pages written in bulk by AI can hurt more than they help.

Does this help with ChatGPT and AI search?

+

Yes. More customers now ask ChatGPT or Google's AI who to call or what to buy. Those tools lean on the same things Google trusts: clear pages, your Google profile, your reviews and mentions on other sites. So the work that ranks you in Google also gets you named in AI answers.

Why hire a consultant instead of an SEO agency?

+

With an agency you usually talk to an account manager while the work happens somewhere else, often by junior staff. Here you talk to the person who builds the plan and does the work, so nobody has to learn your business twice. An agency is the better fit if you want ads, social media and a new website under one contract.

What do you need from me?

+

Access to your website, your Google Business Profile, Google Search Console and analytics. Then a little of your time: a short call each month, photos from your work, and a yes or no on new pages before they go live.

What will the monthly report show?

+

Calls, bookings and sales from search, what they were worth, and which pages and searches brought them in. Then a plain list of what got done on your site and what's next. Traffic and rankings are in there too, just further down.

Is there a contract, and who owns the website?

+

No minimum term. It's month-to-month, and if month one isn't worth what you paid, you get it back in full. Your website, domain, Google profile and analytics stay in your name the whole time.

Does it matter what my website is built on?

+

Most platforms can rank. On WordPress the changes get made on the site directly. On other platforms, like Webflow, Magento or a custom build, they go to your developers with exact instructions, and get checked once they're live.
